Trainer MiJin’s Success Story: Glorious American Dream
MJ is a dynamic member of our team at RWJ Rahway Fitness & Wellness at Carteret, serving as both a certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness instructor. In her Personal Training sessions, she brings focus and individualized support to help members reach their goals. In the studio, her high-energy classes—ranging from fitness dance to aqua aerobics—motivate and inspire participants of all levels.
While MJ’s passion for fitness is evident in every session she leads, she also devotes herself to another lifelong love: art. Her creative work is deeply personal, shaped by her journey from South Korea to the U.S., and reflects themes of resilience, identity, and expression. Through both movement and art, MJ shares her story and empowers others to connect with their own.

Glorious American Dream (48×60, Oil on Canvas, 2023) – MJ Park
This painting began quietly—just me, a blank canvas, and the corner of my kitchen. Back then, it was a private dream. Today, it hangs tall and proud on the wall at RWJ Rahway Fitness & Wellness Center at Carteret (RWJRFWC)—a symbol of how far I’ve come. Not just as a Personal Trainer but also as an immigrant woman who found her fire, her voice, and her purpose in America.
I came to the U.S. from the countryside of South Korea right before September 11, barely speaking English. It was a time of confusion and awakening. I didn’t yet know how deeply this country, and its people, would shape me.
I first joined RWJRFWC as a member in 2013. I trained here, swam here, and found peace in this Center’s pool, my favorite among all the fitness centers I visited. This is also where I began all my fitness certifications, building myself from the ground up. Over time, I became a Group Fitness instructor, earned over 10 certifications, and taught for nearly 13 years at various gyms, helping countless people grow stronger.
But I always came back to RWJRFWC. It was my anchor. Then, in 2023, after 10 years, I finally began teaching at my home Center, RWJRFWC, and other RWJ Fitness & Wellness locations.
Ever since I first walked through these doors as a member, I have dreamed of having my photo on the Trainer wall.
Now, both my photo and my painting hang on that wall.
On February 27, my birthday, I officially began Personal Training at RWJ Carteret, where my own transformation began. I had earned my CPT certification in late 2024, and this wasn’t just a job; it was a rebirth into the version of myself I had always dreamed of becoming.
Then, on July 1st, 2025, everything aligned:
I became a full-time Personal Trainer, was promoted to Tier 2, and hung the Glorious American Dream on the wall—all in one day.
This painting was born from the deep struggle I faced during the pandemic—one of the hardest periods in my life. Creating it helped me rebuild myself. It was more than art. It was resurrection.

MJ Park with the Glorious American Dream
The central figure (strong, grounded, wrapped in global flags) represents all of us who came to this country searching for strength, healing, and a new beginning. It was inspired by Rocky, the ultimate underdog, but not Rocky as a man: Rocky is us.
Especially those who started from nothing, came from elsewhere, and chose to rise.
The swirling flags represent every story I’ve trained, lifted, and loved.
The white doves carry hope.
And the Korean word ‘화해 (Hwahae)’, meaning reconciliation, reminds me that healing is not weakness.
It is strength.
Beneath the image is the quote that fuels everything I do:
“We rise from struggle. We don’t run from it.”
Every drop of sweat on this Fitness Floor isn’t just about fitness; it’s about transformation.
This is my American Dream. Not one of perfection, but of persistence.
And it serves as a daily reminder to every member who walks by, including myself: You’re not just training your body—you’re building your story.
So raise your fire wings.
This painting also reflects what RWJRFWC truly stands for. As our slogan says, “We are not just a gym. We are a state-of-the-art fitness and wellness center.”
Glorious American Dream brings that message to life. Because here, we don’t just lift weights—We lift each other. We come from different places, but we rise together.
Design Note:
The shirt worn by the bottom figure includes the Korean word “화해 (Hwahae)”, which means “reconciliation”. It honors my Korean heritage and symbolizes healing, unity, and peace—it is especially meaningful in a space where people from all walks of life come together to grow stronger.
Member Reflections:
“As a child, I was an amateur boxer in Puerto Rico. I listened to some of the songs of Rocky while I was in training, and it brought back great memories. I appreciate the picture that MJ made. She is a great artist and a great trainer. God bless her, and God bless Rahway Gym and its members”. – Franklin V.

“Posing in front of this beautifully imagined work of pure genius by my trainer, MJ, and pointing at the flag of my country, I feel a surge of pride, gratitude, and deep connection.
This painting, hung right on time before July 4th, tells the story of so many like us who leave familiar lands to chase dreams in America—a place that, though challenging, offers hope, belonging, and the chance to grow stronger.
MJ embodies that spirit; like me, she came from another country and inspires me daily with her creativity, strength, and passion to show up as her best self. Her art is more than flags and colors—it captures courage, resilience, and the beauty of diverse journeys merging into one.
It reflects what RWJ Fitness Carteret stands for: a place where people of every nation, age, and color gather, forging friendships through shared sweat, laughter, and support.
I’m proud to belong to this community, and even prouder to stand beside MJ’s creation—a reminder that our differences make us extraordinary, and together, we’re unstoppable.” – Mousami B.

I’m incredibly grateful to the people who made this possible:
Kirk – our General Manager, for saying yes from the start — and even letting it hang in his office first.
Carol – my Group Fitness Manager, who has always believed in me and offered guidance and support with a grateful heart.
George – our Personal Training Manager, for supporting our team’s needs and helping transport the painting.
Alex – who assisted with a helpful and friendly hand.
RJ – for encouraging us to keep growing stronger as a team.
Leslie – who once told me: Do you ever rest? “You are already living your dream.” – That statement stays with me.
And special thanks to the Marketing Team for believing in this vision and helping to share it with the community.
This is more than a painting—it’s a celebration of who we are as a gym and what we can become together.
Thank you for giving me a wall to hang my legacy.
I’m so thankful for the continued support and opportunity to share my story through art and fitness.
With gratitude and strength,
MJ Park
